Writing Update — November 2020

Hi all, it’s been a while, I know, so I thought I would give you an update on what I have been up to.
Let’s start with some exciting news: I finished my supernatural horror novel in October, which is just over 91,000 words. I wrote roughly 66,000 words in October. It was tough, but thanks to the writing sprints with the Heart Breathings Word Sprints Challenge group and live writing streams on YouTube, I was able to get many words written.
I have now put that novel aside and moved on to the novel I’m writing for NaNoWriMo. My NaNo novel is a paranormal mystery. I’m now at 48,321 words, and, all being well, I should win NaNo tomorrow. I’ll then spend December finishing the book. Writing novels back to back is a new experience for me, but I’m surprisingly doing okay — no burnout yet.
Aside from the novel writing, I’m going through beta reader feedback for my Christmas horror flash fiction collection. My beta readers have given me some great feedback, but that means I have to return to the editing process (sad face). And I only have a week to get it all done — my book will be out on 7th December 2020.
As well as editing, I’m designing the book cover, which is fun, but also frustrating — just like writing. And, if you want to see the book cover two days before the book is published, join my new group The Nicole J. Simms Squad.
My new Facebook group is for all of you who enjoy my stories. You’ll get sneak peeks, cover reveals, the chance to ask me about my process and a safe place to talk about my stories and books. So come, join me, and become one of my NJS Squaddies.
That’s all I have for you today, but I’ll speak to you all soon.
Stay spooky, folks!
