New Year, New Goals
It’s 2015; I can’t believe it. It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was planning my writing goals for 2014, but here we are faced with another New Year.
Did I reach my goals? Well, I did write my planned first novel, but after considering my options I decided that I didn’t want my first novel to be a zombie one. So I moved onto my second planned novel, a supernatural one. I had planned to have a submission ready novel by the end of 2014, however, I decided to take part in the National Novel Writing Month and write my psychological horror instead of the supernatural story. I am hoping to finish this novel by the end of January, and have it submission ready by the end of 2015. I also plan on taking part in the NaNoWriMo again and writing my second novel idea (The supernatural one).
As you can see, I have lots planned, but that’s not all I want to do this year. I have short stories to edit and submit, too many to count. I want to turn my novelette series into a novella series, so after I’ve finished the first draft of my novel, I will be rewriting my Supernatural comedy story. I also have my website to redesign.
A new year isn’t always about new plans; it’s also about reflection, looking back at your past achievements. While 2014 was a struggle, I had received the worst feedback ever, and rejections came in thick and fast, good things did happen in 2014. What are these good things? Well, I joined a writing group, I have been published 3 more times, and one of those stories has received great comments.
I’ve learned a lot through writing. I’ve learned that it pays to be determined. If I had given up writing after my first rejection, I wouldn’t be where I am today. The most important thing I’ve learned is that it’s okay to follow your dream, and this is what I intend to do.
