December 2018 Writing Goals Review

December’s over, guys, can you believe it? I know I can’t believe it. It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was preparing for the last month of 2018, and now it’s over.

With December being the month for the Christmas and New Year celebrations, I decided to reduce my goals because I knew I wouldn’t have time to do much — I bake a lot during the festive season. Reducing my goals proved to be a good idea because I was able to complete most of the goals I set.

So, let’s see what happened in December.

  • Writing Goal 1: Novel 4th draft – edit chapters 11-31
Result: I managed to edit chapter 11 and start chapter 12. However, I wasn’t able to do much else. Due to getting ready for Christmas (present shopping, wrapping, making, Christmas baking, etc.), I didn’t have much time left to work on my novel. Also, I was working towards two short story deadlines, so I had to prioritise those pieces.
  • Writing Goal 2: Complete Goodreads reading challenge
Result: My Goodreads reading challenge was to read 15 books in 2018 and to complete the challenge I had one more book to read. Well, I am happy to say I did complete the challenge, and even better, I managed to read 16 books in 2018. Yay me!
  • Writing Goal 3: Write memoir project short story
Result: This is another goal I completed. I nearly didn’t make the deadline, but I was determined to get this story submitted, so I put the novel aside so I could finish the story. I don’t know if it’s accepted or not yet, but I’m just glad I managed to finish it and submit it on time.
  • Writing Goal 4: Submit one story
Result: This is another goal I completed. Sadly, I didn’t make the competition shortlist, but I am still happy that I submitted the story.
  • So, as you can see, I didn’t do too bad in December. I did cheat a little by having fewer goals, and I neglected my novel again, but overall, I’m not too disappointed about how I did in December. I’m now hoping that I will continue to do better with my monthly goals, fingers crossed.

How did you do in December? Feel free to comment below. I’d love to hear how everyone else is doing.
